I’m Alex Davies.

I’m a journalist and author who loves digging into the systems, inventions, and people that quietly shape how the world works. I have written for and led teams at Wired, The Athletic, and Business Insider.

My new book, Kobuk the Destroyer explores the unseen world of test engineering, and was named one of the best books of 2026 by The New Yorker.

My debut book, Driven: The Race to Create the Autonomous Car, is an award-winning inside account of the self-driving vehicle revolution.
